Just installed a K&N system on the car, only other mods are Xpipe and cat back exhaust. Theres a little hesitation at low rpm when taking off, would it have anything to do with removing the screen on the air sensor?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions
Keep in mind that you just introduced quite a bit more air if it is a coupe. The computer now wants to add MORE fuel than it was already getting (come from factory running semi-rich) to get that A/F ratio back to 14.7.
Your factory tune is not made to run with that extra bit of fuel which can be why you would are getting that sluggish feel as it dumps even more fuel into a stock tune. It may go away after a few hundred miles of driving as the ECM re-maps the fuel tables with that extra air coming in.
Despite any claims or what anyone says, you will NEVER see the full advantage of a bolt-on without doing a tune to compensate for it. Just plan on doing a tune especially if you add more bolt-ons. Last thing you want is for the ECM to keep increasing fuel to compensate for the extra air and then start washing you cylinder walls if you add more than just the air intake.

Not entirely correct, the feedback signal used by the PCM to achieve stochiometric air/fuel ratio is the O2 sensor, not the MAF.
To the OP, check the obvious and simple things first before you start spending money on tuning: air ducting and plumbing properly installed, filter is not over oiled leading to oil cary-over into the MAF, connectors properly seated with clean terminals, check the MAF for any obvious damage that may have opcured as a result of removing the screen.
Additionally, if you have a scantool with real time data capability, you can view your MAF output signal while the vehicle is operating and compare it to the range of values determined by the OEM for a properly operating sensor.
I was able to re-install the screen, it doesn't hesitate anymore. Couple of question, what and how much would I gain by adding an aftermarket MAF? Should I have someone re-tune the car due to the mods I've done.

I never said it was due to the MAF reading, although reading it could leave that assumption. More air coming in without changing the tune is going to change the combustion, which is obviously going to change what is going down the pipes for the O2 sensor to pick up. In this case on the stock tune, it would most likely leave a slightly leaner reading, therefor the ECM is going to add more fuel to the table to bring that A/F back up.

It is a big waste unless you have a large amount of other mods to deem it necessary, such as a heads and cam package to go along with that intake you have now.
Thanks for the help everyone. I'm new to this forum, but frequent other "boating" forums daily. Nothing like the power of a forum to find the help you need, top notch guys!!
