Just got my set of GM manuals in the mail. Lots of reading!
I read through the engine removal procedure briefly. They say to drop it out the bottom by lifting the body. All well & good if you have a lift. So is that the only way?
Reason I ask is the factory manual for the TR8 says the same thing. But I learned from an old Triumph racer that it's actually quicker out the top if you jack the back of the car up.
I should add that all the front bodywork is removed. I don't know if I have to do this yet but it may be needed for better access to fix the frame.
I should add it's a 6spd if it makes a difference.
To remove the engine from the top, you have to drop the subframe so you can pull the engine forward off the input shaft. You have to move the engine 4-6" and the front-mount EBCM is in the way.
I have a 99 and pulled it from the front. Just unbolt ecbm and you have a lot of play in the lines to move it out of rhe way. Just don't go crazy not to break any of the lines.
Thanks, that's what I was looking for. Yes the ABS module is in the front and the manual says to remove it. I was thinking of a fluid flush anyway but don't want to open a can of worms. With all the EBCM posting, I'm almost afraid to touch it.
I have to change the subframe anyway which is why I started to think just go ahead & get the lump out of the way.

I've been here longer than you.. and I'm a web developer... I understand how searching works. The search engine of CF uses keywords, not phrases. Searching for "engine removal" will return results for "engine" and "removal". You get irrelevant results like "hood removal" and "new engine covers from XYZ company". So, I can either filter through dozens and dozens of unhelpful results, or ask a _person_ and get exactly what I'm looking for.
While not perfect, I have found that using quotations does help narrow it down some in the search. Example: "engine removal" as opposed to just engine removal.

Thank you 87Sam.
I'm in the Search Engine business-I can almost ALWAYS find stuff with ADVANCED SEARCH. If that does not work, Google will usually find it even faster.

It does. When you search for "engine removal" (with quotes), the top result is this one. And hey.. guess what.. there is now a link to a guide (thanks to you).

I usually use google to search this site. If you want to do it that way enter
site:forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-tech
then a space and then what you're searching for and google will display results only from c5 tech. It's better than the advanced search function in the forum for SOME types of searches IMHO
