Is any oil leak acceptable? My C5 has 43K miles. I just noticed under the car a thin oil film about three inches around, not fresh but probably accumulated over three months or so. Not enough to have caused me to add oil, but still bugs me.
Is this normal or expected? Anyone else find any oil under their babies?
Is there oil on the floor, or just some seepage on the oil pan? If it's the latter, I wouldn't worry about it. A lot of cars get that, and it would be a bear to trace a specific source. I'd just wipe it down when I changed the oil.
On the other hand, if the car drips on the floor, I'd get it fixed. I HATE it when my car leaks. :mad
I had the rear main seal replaced on my C5 under warranty - the leak was very slight and I waited over 2 1/2 years ( it probably was leaking from the day I got it) before I took it to the dealer for any warranty work. The C5 Tech who worked on my car was of the opinion that the LS1 is a very tight engine and rarely develops a leak unless heavily modded. He did a fine job of fixing mine :D :yesnod:  :D
Thank you all for the info. Crawled around today, but could not find a source of oil. What is there is more of a seepage or film than flowing oil, but it looks like a few drops did hit the ground. From the right side, may be from sloppy filling at oil change that I never noticed. Naturally, I'll be looking under the car about five times a day for the next months.
As my Corvette mechanic buddy says when I bring up oil leaks or oil consumption, "you can buy an awful lotta oil for five or six thousand dollars"

We had the same problem, but at 12K. We took it down to our local GM dealer and they said the oil cooler was loose, causing an oil leak. They tightened it up and the leak was gone.
