I have an 02 Z06 and had a new RPM stage 4 transmission installed with a spec 3 clutch about 3 or so months ago. When I got the car it was very hard to shift gears. It seems to be very tough going between all the gears and I feel like I really have to pull hard into 2nd and push hard into 3rd and again pull hard into 4th. I took the car to the shop they drove it and said it was fine and that thats how vettes shift. I wouldn't think it would be that hard to shift gears and how rough it is between the gears. The shop told me it might be my shifter and that I might replace that. I just feel I really have to pull and push on the shifter. It feels as if theres a stopping point between gears. Can anyone help me or give me insight? Is this right or am i doing damage the car?
Hard to really judge just how "hard" it is to shift, but C5s are pretty notoriously notchy. Especially with an aftermarket shifter and especially with an aftermarket transmission (my car has both).
Which aftermarket shifter do you have?
The shop would have had to pull it, when taking out the trans & diff.
Did you have the clutch m/c replaced too?
Over the years I've used a Hurst, 2009 C/6 Z06 (snap shifter), & the stock C/5 Z 06 shifter.
The Hurst is by far the hardest to shift between gears & into reverse..... it also has the shortest throw, making for quicker/shorter shifts.
The 2009 C/6 Z06 (Snap shifter) shifts the easiest.
Recently I install a Tick adjustable clutch m/c & the difference in using the Hurst shifter is now quite different. It is much easier going into reverse & between gears now than it ever has.
Good luck.
PS., I had also done the anti venom (detent) mod many years ago .
Recently changing to the Tick adj clutch m/c is what really helped in shifting gears.

Smooth shifting can be affected by many things. One thing to make sure of is that your clutch is fully disengaging. A very easy to perform test is overviewed in our FAQ here: http://www.tick-performance.com/imag...kshiftfaq.html
