Today I installed my Zo6 Ti exhaust on my 02 C5 A4. With the assistance of John S. and Joe K. from whom I purchased the exhaust, was a little difficult even though John had a lift at his house, the passenger side was a bear. Thanks to the forum did a search and discovered on the A4 you have to remove the heat shield which allowed enough clearance to get the pipe over the axel. Also discovered that while on the 4 post lift that it helps on the passenger side to use a floor jack and raise the suspension slightly which allows enough height from the subframe to manuever the pipe over the axel. Just an fyi in case someone is planning this on an A4. All went well sounds good, and it is not as restrictive as the stock exhaust. Pictures coming soon.
Thanks guys you know who you are!!
I agree the A4 is quite a bit trickier to get the passenger side off,we tried every scenario possible, evry angle and could not get the flange to clearance. Even when the heat shield was removed it as still ticky to get it to work. Clockwise turn for passenger side and counter clockwise turn for drivers side. At any rate we did it , and im glad its over.
Yes they are and the passenger side is a lot tighter fit but its possible. What I did was have someone hold the flange and manipulate that while I was working with the muffler. You have to have excellent communication also.
Just installed one on my 2000 A4 this weekend also. I had the back end on custom ramps that raised it about three feet off the ground. With the heat shield removed, the passenger side came out easily, before I removed it I struggled and finally gave it. Removing it was only a 13mm bolt and a 10mm nut.
The driver's side came out as slick as could be. However, getting the Z06 exhaust in on the driver's side was a real struggle. I ended up taking the rubber hanger off and slipping it on the muffler and then bolting everything together, being very careful to no push those hanger bolts back into the frame. Without removing the hangar I could not get the flange far enough past the H pipe to slip the muffler into the hanger.
Putting the passenger side it was easy. No probleme with the hanger and no problem putting the heat shield back in. It was a little tight working the pipe over the axle. I also bought some stainless bolts and used some anti-sieze on them for the flanges.
Finally, there were no problems lining up the tips.
