My '99 got even higher oil temps but only during spirited driving.
Normal highway oil temps are around 205 - 210 but if you go into the mountains and are unsuccessfully attempting to pass some SUV or so for a couple of miles with car at 3000 - 4000 rpm and lower gear, I have seen oil temps up to 245 degrees. Nothing to worry about.
The oil is always a couple of degees hotter than the water due to the heat transfer difference try a lower t-stat and make sure you use a fan controller, that turns on the fan quicker.
I was checking mine today, the weather was warm (around 65) in stop and go traffic. My water temp was around 230 and my oil temp was at 227. After I got out of traffic and started to move, the water temp went to 192 and the oil temp went to 207 (which is where it always runs when I am moving). I would think 230 would be nothing to worry about.
My oil temp got to 286 degrees at Moroso yesterday doing hot laps :D Had to run a couple cool down laps to get it to 245 before hammering it again for three aps at a time.
The higher temps are not what you want to run but the good ole Mobil1 can handle the heat.
I had my oil temp hit +/- 245 in my '95 coupe after a 100+ mph run down 190 last Summer (there was no traffic on the road and I couldn't resist the temptation). The outside temperature was at least 100.
It's at time like that you really appreciate having a full synthetic oil in your crankcase and water wetter in your radiator.
Sounds normal. Remember your engine will likely overheat long before your oli temp becomes an issue. If the heat is not being dissipated to the coolant system then you have a problem.
At Moroso a couple guy's with 01' ZO6's had their transmission high temperature warning come on which cut their engine power momentarily  They don't monitor their engine oil temperature because they run in "Competition Mode" which won't allow the display of the oil temperature.
I run mine till the engine oil temp gets to 290 then back off till it cools. I figure this will also keep the tranny and rear end temperatures from going to high as well. I just can't picture buying and installing all three coolers. Plus, I don't mind backing off after a few laps since I don't have to keep going through a race session.
I do monitor and record my laps on a Hot Lap Timer to gage my progression.
Me too. I just hit "Reset" and the Competitive Driving warning disappears, but the system still stays in the Competitive mode. Of course, I've got an auto tranny and that may change the way the display works.
I too can see my oil temp. when in comp mode the only mode I drive in.I've heard of people racing at 300 without problem
I have a C5R Twin Turbo and Nate installed a radiator/oil cooler, reprogrammed for 184/186 fan kick on and a 160 degree stat for 7 Mos. out of the year. For the other 5 I go back to 190/198 and a 172 stat and I run cool and at full operating temp im only 18psi oil pressire and running through the gears I hi 40 and 33-37 cruising 5th gear at 80 mph but on a 105 degree day my water never exceeded 200and oil about 212 10 minutes in 6th gear and Nates Radiator/oilcooler combo Im at 175 water/180oil and thats in 5-10 minutes.
If you want a cool long life motor call Nate @ 480-517-4969 or drop him a note our link is on my Sig tell him Dave S. sent YA.Yours Truly dave S. PS
Its 40-50% cheaper than LPE and I wont say its exactly the same because I cant . GOOD LUCK and keep it cool and running long. When I drive under the same crazy conditions my DIC will give me about 30% more oil life and to me thats a great indicator.
