C5 Convertible top - window separating from top
I've an '02 convertible in which the glass window is separating from the cloth top. Sadly, the garage on my house is too short for anything longer than a Mustang, so the Vettes have to stay in the elements until I build a house with more garage space.
The summer heat/sun is brutal in Texas, so it may be that some sort of glue dried out. The separation started about a week ago, with some notable noise as I drove top up / windows down. Now, it's only OEM elastic straps stopping the window from dropping down onto the cowling(?).
The interior of the top has a smooth, clear plastic strip about 1/2 inch wide running around the perimeter of the top.
Has anyone encountered this issue, and most importantly, any product which well reattaches the window to the top?
The local dealer called a convertible top company which said they'd sew it in, but the glass is not set up for that.
I'm contemplating using from body side-moulding double-sided sticky tape, but worry the thickness of that might cause some buckling, since with window is otherwise flush with the glass.
Thanks for any assistance you can offer.
Jeff

Thanks much for your keen memory of that writeup and for taking the time to 'clue me in.' While we're just now finally into some nice top-down weather in Texas, I want to fix my window before the car's permanently 'open air.'
And while I'd looked through hundreds of posts searching such an informative solution, my feeble attempts were no match for the iron-trap mind of a diehard Vette enthusiast.
Best wishes to you, and keep smiling,
Jeff
