Default Where is the thermostat?

I want to replace my thermostat, but not sure where it is.

And what temp should I buy? ( I assume they have a range of options)

Today, up here in the great white north, close to freezing, it overheated! First time ever. Check the fluid, proper level, clean, and does not have any burned smell.

I just ran the heat on full, slowed down to around 65 MPH, and that brought it down a bit.

Would live to change the themostat before a rad flush.

In case the water pump is toast, I'll do a full rad flush and change after i know it's o.k. or is replaced.

Borrowed the pic from google; I circled the thermostat in red. Let your engine cool off before you swap it. Make sure you use some anti-seize on the two bolts when your reinstall them and make sure you don't overtorque them...

I'd suggest throwing your current stat in boiling water with a thermometer to make sure it isn't working properly before you just replace it...

As far as what temperature to get you may as well just go with the stock 195 degree piece if you're not going to have your cooling fan temps reprogrammed. A lower temp t-stat doesn't really do anything unless you also reprogram the fan settings. Also, a 195 degree stat is good for cold weather anyway...

Before I went to all that trouble I would check the radiator for obstructions. You might have picked up a plastic bag or some trash that is blocking the air flow. Get under the car and have a visual inspection. You might be really surprised what you find in the plenum area. Good luck.

Thanks guys!

Will start with visual, and see if I sucked up a bag or some junk, then boil my existing stat.

Will post what the results are.

Thanks again!

Default So far so good, BUT, I now get dripping off of the top plastic piece.

Rad was free of junk, but sprayed it anyway.

Took the top plastic piece from the two rads, and sprayed down in there as well. Only a little bit of junk.

Took the thermostat out, did the boiling water test. That sucker was fried!

Bought a new thermostar & housing.

So far so good, BUT, I now get dripping off of the top plastic piece. I assume its water from me spraying it, because it does not smell like leaking fluid.

And when I moved the car, got a squeal sound, similar to a loose belt or when your push the power sterring to the limit. Stopped making after a minute or so.

Have not test driven yet, will try it out tomorrow.
