thanks for the suggestion and link, but after over an hour of trying, we had no luck. I guess the boot isn't really in that bad of shape. Hubby said that when he had the car (before he gave it to me) It used to spin and guess his mechanic "fixed" it for him. Oh well! even got our Cobra owning neighbor involved.

Took less than a minute for me to search "Demon Key" and I found this....
just get ready for a bunch of "fun"
basically, you just pop off the shift pattern plate & get some vice grips to pull the silver alignment key (Demon Key) straight up & out so you can unscrew the ****.
you'll probably also need a hammer & a small bar/big screwdriver
tried all suggestions on demon key site. got out the needle nose clamp,c-clamp,screw drivers, screw drivers, WD-40, wood block, cussing, more cussing. Neighbor help and cussing. No luck!
But thanks again everybody

just keep it up - a little more cussing, a few more whacks with a hammer, a lot more screaming & cussing, a couple more whacks & it should be out good luck
Need a vice grip with good teeth on it, and then get the biggest bite on the key you can with the most force you can lock the vice grip with. Need some one strong to lock it on super tight, then work and wiggle it while pulling up at the same time.

This worked for me, but I used a screwdriver as additional leverage. Lay the screwdriver across the ****, leverage it upwards and pull upwards on the VICE GRIPS.
I ended up having to use a drill because the top of the key started to break off and I couldnt get a grip on it anymore with the vice grips so now I dont have a key anymore...
