Default 243 heads

I have a o1 automatic c5 with tpis long tube, o1 Zo6 cam,had planned to do a head & cam swap , decided against the cam , because i don"t what to go with a stall, the setup i have now puts out 330 rwhp, I have a set of ported 243 heads with patriot gold springs , would it be worth the labor cost to go with heads only? about how much rwhp would increase? thanks.

It depends on the size of the cam. If you are installing new heads, do a small cam as well as everything will be apart. I also have an A4, and last year I put a small ECS blower cam in, 220/228 581/588 116 with stock converter and the car drove fine and idled at 650 with no problems. The cam was awesome in the midrange and up to 6800rpms. Hope this helps a bit!

Typically LS6 cars with headers, cold air intake, and a tune will put down 390 rwhp. With your automatic transmission, 243 heads, Z06 cam, headers, and a tune I would say 355 to 365 rwhp.

How much do you expect to pay for the head swap? Where are you located.

His heads are already ported so a little more cam would compliment them better than the Z06 cam, but you could add higher lift rockers since you already have springs. The 01 LS6 cam actually has more duration (207-217 .525-.525 116ls) but less lift than the 02 cam (204-218 .551-.547 117ls) so if you add lift up to(.555 w/1.8 or .571 w/1.85) to take advantage of the additional head flow you are actually better off. Worth the cost is subjective but stock 243's are good for about 20rwhp. With a good CAI,ported 243 heads and more lift you should get close to 400 rwhp. A stall would give you equal or better actual performance gains at the track tho.

Excluding NOS a high stall T/C is the best bang for the buck on an A4. A good T/C can knock off more than .50 from your 1/4 mile ET. The Yank SS series converters have excellent street manners.

You will love the stall. And 2800 isn't much. Besides, it locks in 3rd anyway.

What gears are you running? The bigger the gears the more like stock a high stall converter will feel.

Now that's more like it. With that cam those heads and a 2800 stall you'll have a solid, Streetable everyday 11 second car.
