Default Alternator pulley fell off

Between quick shifts, I lost the nut that holds on the pulley, the pulley came off the shaft, but the pulley stayed in the engine bay. Putting the pulley on the alternator, it bottoms out on the bearing hub and has no friction. Is this a press fit pulley or is the nut expected to do all the work. I guess I need to know where to go from here, just a new nut, a new pulley, or a new alternator (shaft). I was suprised to see it didnt have a keyway on it.

It is on a 2002 LS1 M6 with a TVSS2300

It's not a press fit and there is no keyway. Just crank the nut down tight. Best to hit it with an impact.

Impact gun, use RED Loctite on threads with a lock-washer between nut and pulley !!!

I know this is an old thread but I figured I would add to the info and maybe help someone in the future. I installed my alnernater pulley(8 rib) with an impact gun and I guess I hit it to hard and stripped the threads off the alternater input shaft. I don't know I stripped them at the time but after a couple miles with the supercharger installed the pulley came loose and threw thr belt off and messed up the pulley. now I have to buy a new belt 95$, alternater150$, and new innovations west pulley $95. when I install my new pulley on my new alternater, I'll look tight it and used a lockin washer. DONT LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU !

I just had this happen on my C6 z06 a quick downshift to 3rd from 6th and leaned into it. When I backed off I heard the nut bounce around the engine bay but the pulley was sitting on the brake lines. The size of the nut was an M16x1.5 if I would've known this size it would have saved me calling up a tow truck...

Or tack weld the nut to the alternator shaft. Or a full bead...

The later ones had a clutch pulley for this reason. It s like a ratchet so it doesn't jerk the alt. There is a special tool for putting one on.
