JUST CHANGED OUT THE DELCO FOR THE RED OPTIMA I BOUGHT AT COSTCO FOR 99.99 PLUS 3.00 BATTERY CHARGE ON THE 2001 LPE 650 TT.MORE CRANKING POWER AT BETTER PRICE THEN THE OEM BATTERY! :D
I had read that if you have extended periods of time when you do not drive your car and use a alarm system the best battery to get is the Optima Yellow Top
From the Optima Web Site:
SLI Batteries
In any vehicle or equipment that will use the battery only for Starting, Lighting, & Ignition requirements and has a properly working alternator, the OPTIMA Red Top™ Starting Battery will perform extremely well, often providing up to two to three times longer life than conventional batteries. If the vehicle has few or no after-market accessories and uses a stock or upgraded alternator, the OPTIMA Red Top Starting Battery is the appropriate choice.
Remember, it is possible for the customer to have a completely discharged Red Top OPTIMA that will not start their engine; the advantages of the Red Top are that it can accept a rapid recharge and it will recover from discharge many more times.
To provide the customer the best OPTIMA solution, it is, necessary to consider both the application and the charging system before recommending the correct OPTIMA. For example, if your customer has a Ford Expedition with an after-market alarm system, which OPTIMA would you recommend? If the customer drives the car every day, the Red Top would be the correct choice, since the amperage drain will be nominal and the battery would be recharged on a daily basis. However, if the customer stores the vehicle for a long period of time with the alarm system engaged, you should recommend the OPTIMA Yellow Top, since the amperage drain over several weeks would damage a Red Top and reduce its life.
I did not know about the battery problem until I saw these posts. Does this problem also apply to the 1999 FRC? I assume that the battery problem must have been either resolved or it started at a certain point.
My thought right now is I do not want to take any chance and change the battery now.
I have been through 2 Delco batteries so far. I finally said screw it, even though I could have had it replaced under warranty again, and bought a Optima Red Top! :D
Anyone know where I can buy Optima Red Tops in the Atlanta area? How much do they run?
My battery is the original (99 model) and its going. If I don't drive the car every week or hook up the battery tender, it dies withing 6-7 days.

Re: Another Delco Battery Story (2kbluestreak)
Personally, I have had good luck with the Interstate batteries. I currently run an Interstate Megatron battery in my C5 coupe and have never had any problems with it. I don't think Bobby Labonte would risk his Nascar reputation and represent them if they were not a top notch battery. They have consistently been rated high in the industry. Oh well, just my opinion. Peace. T-Bone.
