I have read the sticky and I am really not sure what to do. I have a 2004 Z06 with under 20k miles and I just got the "service column lock" message but I have not experienced the stuck column. It drives like normal with the message and I have not dared to lock it up with it shut off to see if it unlocks upon start up. I am trying to figure out my best option. I do not know if the car has been serviced at all for it. I realize the fault was probably caused by low battery so my initial plan is to just remove the battery, charge it, re-install, and see if the message goes away. If it doesn't fix it, I would prefer to avoid a dealer visit but at the same time I do not want some hack job fix. I want the "right" fix. I want to be able to drive this car in the future without worrying about the possibility of lock up but I am hesitant about the CLB because of all the controversy I see about it. Any recommendations?
get a voltmeter on that battery. If it's less than 12.5, get that issue fixed first!!! And don't read voltage by the car's voltage gauge....use a volt meter with the key out of the ignition. If charging does it get it there, replace the battery. With that kind of low mileage, it's probably still the original battery in the car

Ok I'll check. Once I sort out the problem I'm going to install the unit from complianceparts.com. It looks like a newer more effective CLB solution than what I've been reading up on.
