Well the topic pretty much sums it up.....I notice when i'm at WOT i hear an annoying rattling or clicking sound. I can't tell where it's coming from though. This is only under hard acceleration.....Any suggestions?
Re: Clicking/rattling sound while @ WOT (Patman36)
Did you ever get it checked out? Sounds horrible! Between that noise at WOT and the "rocks in the can" noise when you shut it off with the clutch not engaged makes me wonder.... :(
I haven't had it checked out yet... I have heard there is a new PCM update that should fix some pinging but the overall effect is a DECREASE in performance, supposedly very noticeable on A4's... this is getting annoying if you ask me. :(
Yes, please let me know what they find out. Hopefully it is something SIMPLE. Sorry to hear about the problems with your car. I too have had a few minor glitches needing warrenty service (headlight actuator went out, buzzing dash (don't ask), creaking top). Take care and good luck!
The sound that you are describing I have as well. I also had the exact same sound under the exact same conditions on my old LT1 '97 Trans Am. That sound and the marbles in a can seem to be shared between the two engines/transmissions.

I have the same thing but I have noticed it more when I buy gas from Exxon as opposed to other places I go don't know why but that is my personal experience.
Do you guys think it is possible that what you are hearing is the PCV valve? Haven't noticed it on the C5 yet...but have heard something like described here on the LT1 Z-28. I've been going to pull the PCV valve and run a diagnostic lap to see if it is the problem. Haven't had time to get to it yet.

This sound is never affected by the fuel I use. I really does sound like something is rattling and both my old LT1 Trans Am and the LS1 in the 'Vette had the exact same sound. I doubt it's transmission related as I used to have a 6-speed and now have an auto.
I've experienced this on occasion at WOT. I don't associate it with fuel brands. It does seem to occur at lower RPMs, rather than higher.
I complained about it once when I took the car to the dealer for something else. The service manager said they test-drove the car and it was "just the injectors ... it's normal."
I'm not sure I buy that, but the problem for me has been intermitent and I haven't pursued it further.
Below link has a way to search for PCM updates. My '01 shows a update for a pinging noise (which I am experiencing as original post mentions). Good luck.
