So I'm digging around my console doing the hazard switch replacement and I find this
Underneath the key thingy, there is some wires. One is a big fat pink one, there is one next to it is a big fat brown one. Well, my big fat brown one has a crimp and a red wire running off it. Now, I couldn't find anything it may have gone too, but does anyone have any idea why someone would do this? What is that brown wire? Should I keep searching for something hidden in my console area this may have been attached to?
Excuse the picture quality, I took it with a microwave.
Yep. Someone has tapped into the ignition switch circuit. Who knows where it goes......but ....you should find out, in case you have problems like the OP in the thread below.
well here's the other mind**** part, the other end of that wire isn't stripped. So if it was spliced into something, it wouldn't have worked anyways. The opposite end was wrapped in red electrical tape, so I removed the tape and found out, that whatever it was in, it wasn't even stripped correctly.
I'll go look for more things once I get motivated back up from getting that hazard switch out.
I wired my aftermarket stereo into the ignition wiring very similarly to your picture because it's a closer switched ACC source than running a wire into the passenger foot well fuse panel. If you're not the original owner I'd bet money the previous owner had an aftermarket stereo system in the car, and pulled it out. Rather than take apart the knee bolster under the steering wheel they just cut the wire and taped it in the center console behind the stereo.

Sounds like whatever that wire was used for.. was removed... and they covered the end with electrical tape. Remove the tap and tape the wire.
