Today I tested a spare tire. Take a look at the pictures and let me know how you think about it. It fits perfect in the rear, for the front I will need a 7mm spacer. When the spacer is turned I can fix it in the spare tire and also use it in the rear. The tire is in a 18" dimension and very thin. It has a homologation and is able to carry more than a normal C5-tire. To put it in the rear compartment it must be fixed somehow for safety reasons. Will have to solve this.

Hope you don't want to take the top off. Any chance it would fit in the center compartment  Oh wait, what do I care that is where my bottle is and it ain't movin'
Remember that the circumference of the tire must be the same on both sides to use it in the rear. If not you would quickly overheat and burn up the limited slip.
No more interest?
I will only use it for safety on long trips. As long as I am near my home, my wife can bring this to me. No need to carry it around. But on a 500 mile trip I would use it. Of course it has to be fixed in the back somehow.
A frient of mine is just turning the spacer needed for the front mounting.

C5 Frederik !!
Can you cet more of those spare tires for a good price, or do you
know where to buy them?
I will be coming to Deutschland within a week, and it´s probably cheaper there than Sweden "the land of taxes".

JE.
Some Porsches have an uninflated spare that is very compact. In a 944 I saw, the spare was stored vertically in the rear hatch area.
Not much chance this spare could store vertically, with the center compartments cover removed, but an uninflated Porsche spare might. Then just make a cutout in the center cover the right shape, and cover the spare with a carpeted slip cover. Gotta bolt it to the rear wall of the compartment, too.
I'll measure the rear compartment, and the spare in a Porsche, and see how they compare. Plus make sure the diameter matches.
I've been thinking along these lines - with the Z06 I don't even have runflats. It definitely would be nice to have on long drives. Is the overall diameter exactly the same as the rear? Any problems having different diameters in the front?
For all interested:
At the moment I´m not able to get this spare tire for a low price, but a friend of mine is trying to get the address of the manufacturer.
The tire is out of a Jaguar XJ, the one you see on my picture is a ´94 used one from a junk yard for 110 $. Jaguar dealer sells a new one for 240 $. These tires are still in new cars, so you can take a look at it in a showroom.
Laplander: let me know if I can help you get one of these. Would be glad if you visit me in Stuttgart.
This Jaguar is the only Euro car that has the same bolt diameter!!! Porsche, Mercedes (who also have a folded tire) do have a different ones, so it will not fit. Correct me if I´m wrong, but that was what I found.
The over all diameter in rear is exactly like OEM (see first pictures), what I think is very important to get not harm onrear end. On the front it is bigger when you got 17" tires like I have. But with a speed limit of 50 mph that is written on the wheel, I do not expect any damage or something else for the front.
All kidding aside, how do you get the doors open when you're inside -- it looks like you need to fold the mirrors just to get in.
And on a side note -- now you have the spare tire on, say on the rear, and you're 500 miles from home. Lots of bags that fit on top of the spare tire in the back.
Where do you put the big tire, the one that's flat?
