I have a lightly moded and tuned automatic c5 with 3.15 rear. It was tuned by previous owner. What is normal shift point for a c5?
This is how my C5 behaves:
Normal driving- Shifts at 1800-2000 rpm all gears
WOT-
First to second gear at 3000 rpm (always)
second to third around 4000-4500
Is this normal performance tune up? Or is it tuned to save gas. car produces plenty of power at 4000 rpm. 0-60 still remains below 5 seconds.
The really smart guys will chime in here.
But from what I've read in Malsic's book, the A4 shifts normaly at a particular throttle opening percentage. The more throttle the later it shifts. This can be adjusted.
Full throttle is controlled by mph and rpm. 2 different tables that can be adjusted. Stock RPM full throttle is 5900. So yours must be tweaked lower for some reason.
I used a Pedator tuner to raise my redline to 6200 rpm and my A4 shifts at 6000 rpm under full throttle.Around town it depends on throttle opening but generally around 1800-2000 rpm.
I had mine tuned to suit my driving style. The shift points, time to shift, as well as the transmission lock up are variables that a good tuner can easily do. The tuner I used had a table that changed the shift point as a function of the throttle position. I like to stay in first a bit longer than stock and the adjustments that the tuner made for me made the car so much more "driveable". I think it took all of 10 minutes and he did some other things too. Well worth the time and effort in my humble opinion.
