Default service traction control ???

ok so last night i was on my way home from eating ...i was in the interstate running about 75mph with the cruze on ..i noticed the lights dim for a split second then the cruise kicked off..it done this three times on a 60 mile trip...i could reset it and work fine for about 10 miles or so then happen again....then the last time it happened the car pulled hard to the right and the traction service light came on...i think the traction control caused the car tp pull to the right but im not sure if the two are relaited or if this is two problems...i did a little reading on the traction control and read wehre it will applay the brakes ...could this be what happened if so where so i start looking for the problem.....would a week battery cause this ..the car starts fine and it was charging at 14.1 on the trip...its an 03 zo6 and i have only had the car a week... thanks

Charging voltage as displayed by the car means nothing as to the health of the battery. Read the battery voltage with a meter across the battery terminals with the engine off (let it sit a few minutes before taking a reading if the car has just been run).

Voltage of a healthy battery should run 12.6 -- 12.7 volts. If lower than 12.5 that battery may cause various problems on a C5.

If you have any doubts about the battery, charge it up to 12.7 volts or so(read the voltage a few minutes after disconnecting your charger) and let it sit overnight with the negative battery cable disconnected. Then take a reading with your meter the next morning. If it has gone down below 12.6 the battery is suspect.

Pull the codes. It may be the steering wheel position sensor. The symptoms sound identical as to what happened when mine went out.

FYI SWPS malfunction code is P1287.

Clear the codes and drive the car for awhile and see what comes back. I know the C1287/C1288 codes are for the swps and they would always give me a H behind them also. Post what returns and we can help from there.

If you used the dash guages with the key on and engine off that reading doesn't mean a lot. There are many different electrical circuits that load the battery with key on and engine off. They would be different if you had been driving the car and shut the engine off than if you had just gotten into the car and put the key in the ignition and turned it to the on position.

The fix for a bad SWPS is to replace it. Not that difficult to do.

I agree that with all the codes your car shows, they need to be cleared and the car driven a bit and then pull the codes again. What return are what you should concern your self with correcting.

Yep, that is the same thing that mine did. www.gmpartshouse.com is where I bought the swps ( about $65.00). There is a write up here on the forum with pictures that shows how to replace it if you want to try it yourself. I was afraid of the airbag, so I took it to a corvette mechanic friend of mine. Took him less than 2 hours to complete the whole job.
