Default Help a newbie with a head light problem???

Hi all, first post. Have a 02 convert. Maybe last 3 months driver headlight would refuse to open, intermitently. Lights on/off a few times and then it'd pop up. Couple weeks ago refused to open. Used the little **** to crank open and drove home. Turn the lights off and the motor on drive side won't shut off Makes horrible racket. So googled the problem and found this site's thread on replacing the gear and cleaning all the grounds ect. Very helpful and the audio snip posted is exactly what I am hearing. So I will clean all the plugs and do the ground wires but think gear is probably trashed so will replace.
Heres where I need the help. Seems like there is a replacement gear (out of metal) that is better than the OEM plastic? Right? Where do I get the gear? If it is a Ebay shopping experience what should I pay? And if there is anything else I aught to do while I have that part of the car appart will somebody give me a heads up about what it is?
Thanks,
Ross

Yes, it sounds like the headlamp motor gear is probably done. It happens to all of us. I believe you can get them from MAMotorworks and probably many other places. Things to also do while you are there, insure the contacts are clean on the headlamp controller. Its vertically mounted on the frame rail directly behind the passenger side headlamp. It controls the opening and closing of the lamps.

This is a "complete" kit with everything including grease, epoxy,
T-brace and great instructions.

Easy fix.... just follow the directions with Dickman's kit.

The most difficult part is splitting the case. Just take your time and it will come apart. Search the forum for lots of tips on this subject.
