I presently have Nitto's 555.
Car is a bit modifided, and I do have DR's if I go to the track..Once a year... 12.2 in the quarter. 2000 A 4.
How much bigger can I go in the rear on stock rims ?
What are the tire of the day, these days... for traction on the steet regardless of wear and price ?
My Nitto break out emidiately. Again I do not whant to put on DR,s.
I did a search whit no help on this matter for me.
Thanks.
It's a problem of geography. The roads are cold this time of year in Quebec. Any tire that could give you more traction is going to require some heat to work.
That's why I don't enjoy driving my car whan the roads go below about 50 degrees.

I agree whit your comment, but my car is stored for the winter and will only come back out in april.
I do need more traction even in 80+ temperature.
Thanks for the reply.
A lot of people run 295x30's on the back...I did at one point. If you're not looking for a ton of mileage, the Nitto 555rII is a good handling tire with pretty good traction.
Again ...just looking to find how much biger can I go on stock rims...?285. ??...... whitout scewing the abs ..or the TC.. and what is the most stikiessst tire, whitout going to DR,s
regardless of price and wear...
Thanks again
Bigger isn't always better. A tire too large for a rim will cause the tire to cup and reduce the effective contact patch. You haven't stated _why_ you don't want a DR. They sound like the best solution for you. However, 12.2s in an A4 shouldn't be all _that_ tough on tires.
Maybe I should consider DR's as i dont put that much milage on the car although it is may dayly driver in the summer.
But I do go on longer trips on ocasion.
PS: I just hate it when I step on it and just stand there spinning.. sp..
So DR"s... standered size ? Nitto,s ??
Thanks again much appreciated.

I have a cammed/header/CAI/tuned 2000 C5 coupe and I am running Nitto 555R's. At the track they won't hook and sometimes are a bit squirelly on dry pavement when I get on it in cool/cold weather. Before the cam I was running some Faulken 452 tires that hooked better than the Nitto 555R. The 452's were quieter and a lot cheaper. I still have the set and they will go on when the Nitto's wear out. The Nitto's were on the wheels I bought from a forum member. DR's are in my future if the 452's won't hook any better then the Nitto's unless someone post up a better option.

Thanks,
My wife, SWR on this forum, took it at the local County Sheriff's training track. I was doing about 75 and about to brake for a hard right turn. She is a pro shooter. Sports Illustrated, Icon Sports, and many newspapers. Her passion is wild life!
Nitto's need to be heat cycled or they don't work so well. At first they don't seem to be very good. A few deep stages and they hook much better. You can ask one of my buddies who twisted an axle on a mustang. Discount Tire sells them heat cycled.
I have 315/30/18s in the rear and 295/35/17s on stock Z06 rims. They do not rub as long as the car is not lowered by a lot. I also have a bigger front sway bar to keep the rear down more, works very well.
