I have a new battery and the car was running fine till Sat. night it was dead! Gave it a jump and used it ok. At night, dead again so mechanic says battery is fine but the chip on the actual key is not doing it's job. There is a circuit that continues to click - under battery level/by passenger's feet and seems to drain the battery. Why does the "Security" continues to keep flashing even when the key is out?!
it's a 2001 and never have had any problems till now.
Any idea what it may be?

The Security light is supposed to flash when the key is pulled to remind the driver to arm the security system.
From the Owner's Manual:
With this system, the SECURITY light will flash as you open the door (if your ignition is off). This light reminds you to arm the theft-deterrent system.
The SECURITY light comes on to remind you to arm your theft-deterrent system. If it comes on and stays on when your ignition is on, there may be a problem with your theft-deterrent system.
If the Security Light stays on constantly, then there's a problem - from Owner's Manual:
The key must be clean and dry before it’s inserted in the ignition or the engine may not start. If the SECURITY light comes on, the key may be dirty or wet.
WOW i feel i need to go to school with all this much to read and learn.. but after all the reading I got to the bottom and didn't find my car year 2001. I imagine it works similar as those models too. Can't say I can follow all that but the suggestion is appreciated. I need to print and slowly go step by step as I don't plan on taking the car to a dealer anytime soon.
Ok these steps are easier to follow and amazing the key may be dirty? I guess the chip inserted has been ignored but now acknowledged and realize it must be there for a purpose so we can surely try to windex clean it
thank you much for your suggestion.

I'm confused. You have not posted any codes, and the resistor pellet has nothing to due with the lock cylinder sensing the key is in or out of the ignition.
Jumpin Jimminy, a ten year member that does not know that the SECURITY LIGHT is supposed to flash once the key is out...
Houston, We have a problem...........................
LOL.. easy killer!!
10yrs of having the vette is correcto mundo! So, not like I read the entire book as a mechanic you know? Ok so I've seen it flash when car goes off. What I said was what the mechanic said it was the problem.. the sensor in the key is not wking properly so the Security light flashes on/off.
I listen and try to figure out if that makes sense or not but I'm no expert as I wish I was so I wanted your opinion or tips?
YEap! Houston, we definitively have a problem... Speedy-vet needs someone to fix her prob.. I mean her vette's problem!

What your mechanic told you doesn't make sense. Again, referring to the Owner's Manual.

The only time the Security light should flash is when the door is open and the key is out.
When the key is in and the ignition turned ON, the Security light should go out. If it's stays on solid with the key ON or the engine running, then there's a problem.
Lol, lol, hey see if you can get the codes, that way we can help you out and get your baby running properly again................
Yeah, the resister in the key is simply there to line up with the proper resistance value that the ECM Or BCM is to expect, that along with the properly cut key lets the car start. So if with a jump the car starts, then it's not the key's fault. Codes, codes, codes................................... ............will tell.
