Default Running with one ONE Cat!

Weird question, me and my friend were talking about taking off one cat on my corvette. Has anyone attempted this? Wondering how much it effects sound/smell mostly. It would be done on a 2002 Z06. Also, does anyone know where you can buy cat delete pipes? I can't seem to find them on LG's website. Thanks!

That sounds like a great idea. Post a video of the sound.

Haha I was thinking about doing it anyway, I just can't find anyone that's done it. Is there a reason for this?

So what you are saying is you are going to remove the cat from one bank and not the other?

Yeah, my main concern is it would create some weird uneven sound

I thought you were talking about removing the pup cats. I'm not sure what years had them..Why on earth would you want to run one bank catless?????

This sounds like one of those stories that begins "So my friend and I were having a few beers and....." Seems like all good ideas begin that way.

I think thats gonna make your Vet run like ****. One side of the engine is gonna be running with the data from exhaust that is clean, while the other side would be running from exhaust that is dirty.

I read most of the posts on here on a daily basis and I have learned some things but this is the strangest post I have ever read. I also belong to the SSR forum and the Camaro5 forum but I must be missing something with this post. WHY !!!!!

There are no bolt in cat delete pipes as the Cats are welded to the H pipe. You have to buy a complete Hpipe. Only a handful of H pipes I have seen connect to the factory manifolds. Most of them have you cut near the H, slip on there pipe and then bolt the over axle to it. The alternative is take it to someone that deals with exhaust and is willing to cut out your cats.

You want both banks to be balanced. The bank without the cat is going to flow much easier. Delete both cats or keep them. I deleted both cats on my Z06 because one of them was starting to come apart. Stock manifolds, stock H Pipe, Ti exhaust and the car sounds good. It's still not up to par with loud muscle car sound but the exhaust note makes it presence known and it gets louder the harder you throttle it.

You do know the stock exhaust has a cat for each side of the engine?

Huh?

The O2 sensors are before the cats. What would be the point of measuring AF after the cats? The only reason there are secondary O2s after the cats is so that the computer can confirm that you still have cats (emissions only, I removed mine years ago).

Having said that, I can't see any reason why you'd only want to remove one. You'd just have uneven exhaust flow at that point. I doubt it would make much of a difference positively or negatively. Just seems like a waste of time.

Removing the cat might also make that bank take longer to heat up the front O2 which might or might not affect how the computer reads that side
