Default P1431 Code - what's really broke?

I have 80K on my 03 Vert. I had all of the usual fuel gage problems, got tired of buying Techron, etc. So...I had my mechanic (good local Vette shop) replace both fuel gage sensors (as well as the filter and sleeve) Now it's worse. The gage stuck at 5/8 for about 200 miles and then went to ZERO. The only code is a "P1431 Fuel Level Sensor 2 Performance". I put 330 miles on the car and brought it back to the shop--he says the sensors are good and is now troubleshooting wiring, the jet pump and who knows what. Does this sound right or is he chasing money down a rabbit hole? Anyone have experience with this code?

Being a forum member of almost 8 years, I'm sure you know how to use the search function...you'll find plenty of reading if you input p1431. Yes, the mechanic is strokin it....on your dime. You do not mention when your car was made, so I don't know if you have FFS or not.

Thanks for the post and attachment. Mine is an early 03 and is non FFS. My mechanic did say all the things in that SB. I was assuming that all I had was the same-as-it-ever-was fuel sensor issues. We shall see. More to follow...
