1998 Z51 6SPD MANUAL..49,000 MILES..Ok driving home from work clicking along and I slow down for a red light downshift 3rd to 2nd 2nd to 1st then the engine starts running rough. then a message appears on the dash. it reads reduced power then flashES over to traction control and then goes back to reduced power. the car does not have enough power to let out the clutch with out stalling and the idle is bouncing all over the place.
I turned the car off and sat for maybe a minuite, then carnked the car. the messages diappeard but the check engine light was on and then the car drove normal after that. I got home turned the car off and went inside. I went back out to the car about 30 min later and started the car. Everything was normal and the check engine light was not on. Any ideas of what happened or what is happening?

Thanks for the response. It is a wealth of information. I am used to working on C3s not the newer ones. C3s are much much less complicated. I could have distrubed something when I pulled the door panel last month to change the mirror assembly out. My kids broke the mirror housing while playing in the garage. There is a lot of sand accumulation here since I live less than a half a mile from the beach so that could have something to do with it. Thanks again!

Then clear all the codes (see the link I provided) and then drive the car a bit and when you get back pull the codes again. H codes are important in tracking what has been going on so don't just dismiss them as insignificant. If the problem occurs again, pull the codes immediately (If your driving pll over and pull them)
If the problem happens again, before you shut the engine off open the door and shake the hell out of the rubber accordian tube between the door and A Pillar. If the problem suddenly clears then you have an issue with the electrical plugs that connect the door control modules to the rest of the electrical system. The Class 2 serial data buss runs between the car and door. If it gets unhappy the car is going to do all sorts of strange things. Traction control errors, reduced power, dash lights flash or go out and more. Likely a bad connection due to corrosion of the contacts in the connectors. Here is a link about this problem:
