Default Air Intake

I'm new to the forums and have an issue with the stock Air filter. I Have a 2004 corvette I bought in August. I put a K&N air filter in it and every once in a while I get the check engine light. I pulled the codes and it says mass airflow sensor out of range. I really don't like the stock air box and wonder what's best to replace it with and if I do do I need to replace the maf sensor. I've been looking at different sites for about a month and there are many to choose from but would like some input. Thank you.

Did you over oil your K&N perhaps?

Get some MAF sensor cleaner from Autozone, Advance Auto, etc. While you are cleaning look at your current air cleaner housing to see if there are cracks or other areas that air may be passing through. Check the filter to see if there is too much oil.

Sorry guys for not getting back sooner. I got the check engine light again. I ran my code reader and got 2 codes p0101 and p0492. The 0492 code is the air pump system. I looked at it closely and it looks like the hose is kinked at the upper rad hose. The code says insufficient air so I will fix it and see if the 2 codes go away. I'm thinking that that might fix the p0101 code too. Hopefully.

I also got the check engine light when I first installed my twin cone Volant system. It turned out to also be an air pump problem. I fixed the problem by simply removing the hose from the air cleaner assembly and attaching a small (pcv) cone filter directly on the hose. This allows the air pump system to have its own air supply independent of the air intake. This fixed my problem. Someone mentioned that these types of issues can sometimes happen because of air starvation to the air pump caused by some sort of Venturi effect within the air intake assembly.

I changed the throttle body coupler and started to fill the tank with chevron. So far it hasn't come back on. Hopefully the fuel gage will start working properly with good fuel. I had went to the gas station at fort irwin and didn't realize that they had up to 10 percent ethanol in it. I really don't want to try to replace the sending units in a 2004 corvette. Looks painful. so far so good.

I just wanted to tell everyone what fixed the problem. I replaced the Maf with a granatelli maf and 1 month no CEL. I also sprayed wd40 in the air hose to free up the check valves. Runs great and no light. The fuel guage is working right now that I just use Chevron gas. Thanks everyone for the help.
