Default Fuel Filter Installation Question

I put in a new filter today and when removing the old one the stud broke off due to rust. It's pretty well supported by the 3 tubes, but what about the ground. It runs fine so how important is the ground lead that is now not making ground with the chassis?

It's an added measure of safety to prevent static electricity buildup, considering most of the lines are nylon, tanks made of plastic, etc. I would not feed comfortable allowing the fuel filter to just dance around back there. I'm sure it feels secure with the 3 lines, but the nylon lines are not designed to support weight over time.

Get a P clamp from a hardware store that fits around the filter and run a self-tapping screw into the frame to hold the P clamp and the ground cable. I would suggest a screw with a hex head and a bit of antiseize on the threads to make sure you can get it out next time.

How rusty is your car? I just changed the filter on my 100k miles 2002 from Minneapolis and the nut came right off.

Good advice. I took another look this morning and there were just enough threads left to get an aftermarket nut on there 3/4 of the way. Along with some thread lock and I'm good to go until the next filter.
