Default C5 oil pan queary

I have an 02, there is a wire in the wiring harness beside the starter that has 2 small wires leading to an electrial plug that is plugged in to a sensor near the oil pan. Two things, what is the sensor for, and how does one get it unplugged ? My headers melted the 2 little wires and am trying to replace them somehow,I will have to take the header off I think and cut into the harness to find the wires to make sure I connect them properly when I splice new wires in. I am suprised something did not short out,as the wires were bare and touching each other, but the car ran fine and nothing wrong with the guages. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

Thanks Al

Sounds like your oil level sensor; and from what you describe I don't think you need to remove the sensor itself. You will almost definitely need to remove your passenger side header though. Read here: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...el-sensor.html

I will scout it out, thank you very much, I know I don t need to take the sensor out. Just thought i would pop the plug off to make it a little easier to get the color coding correct and make splice on one end easy anyway.. hahaha
Thanks very much

That plug is a PITA to get off. It's made like the ones on the headlight bulbs. You need to lift up on the lock flap which is towards the front. But it goes into a recession in the sensor. I used a small curved pick to go in and pull the flap piece up while pulling on the plug.

My wires looked pretty well baked in that area with stock exhaust. So I'm not surprised the headers toasted yours. Better get some heat wrap.

That is my mission, have to figure out which wire goes to which,as they are toasted back to the wiring harness, may have to take that apart alos.Hopefull won t have to take the header out, just off the head, time will tell. thanks for the input
