Default If I blow the LS1

This just came out. For a non-custom built motor, looks REALLY interesting for the C5 chassis, and reasonably priced. Thoughts:

Thing makes crazy HP with such a small cam. Wonder what heads are on it?

Cylinder Heads (P/N 12629063): Aluminum L92-style port; as cast
with 68cc chambers
Valve Size (in): 2.165 intake / 1.590 exhaust

For $7,578 plus shipping and frieght, I would either build my own long block or buy a vendors. Keep in mind, thats still stock parts (crank, rods, pistons etc)

I think I could build a better/stronger long block for less than that.

Default Long Block

Agreed, but this is not a long block. Plug and play motor--intake, exhaust, fuel system, etc. Didn't see what clutch it comes with, but add a serpantine system and drop in. If you're not going to race the cr@p out of it, you've got the same BHP as a LS7 for $5000 or more less in cost (considering the LS7 crate motor prices). The rotating assembly isn't near as good, but for a more or less street car, I think it would make a great motor??!!

I broke a rod in the LS1 in my 2001 SS Camaro leaving a very nice hole in the block.
I replaced it with a LS6 crate engine from Crate Engine Depot.
I threw a set of long tubes on it that dumped into a Loud Mouth system, as well as a moderate cam, my Camaro already had the LS6 manifold, so a CAI topped it off.
I replaced the factory single cam chain with a double and did a few other safety measures to the valve train to be sure I wasn't going to be breaking anything.
In the end...a little over 400 to the wheels with a Mustang Dyno.
Not too bad for the measly at the time price of $2200.00 for the LS6 plus the go fast goodies.
The car was rock solid and had a great idle with a LSA of 112!

I wouldn't spend that money to replace a motor in a C5. 525bhp is not that hard to get with the LS1/6 and LS1/6 rarely blow up badly enough that the block is useless. I don't think crate motors come with the clutch and there is a bunch of other things you need to do to make it work in a C5.

That is a great option for a street rod type vehicle.

crate engines are good if you need everything with it but are far from a true precision built performance engine... its an Ls3 crate engine same as you could get from SDPC.

If you blow your ls1 we could rebuild it for about the same money but make a heck of a lot more power and I'll gauranty/warranty if for a year as well to be free of defects in workmanship and material. Only we'll deliver a few more cubic inches than that 376 as well.
