Default radiator/fan shroud needed??

Hey Guys, I am in the process of cleaning up the engine bay in my 97 C5 and wanted to know if the radiator/fan shrouds (the angled one that mounts to the bumper, and the small one that mounts above the a/c condensor and radiator) are really needed for cooling purposes? I know that guys who go the boosted route have to change their setup anyways and wanted to know how much these parts really affect cooling? I am removing the A/C system so the condensor will no longer be used.

Thanks!

Are you talking about a C5 or C4 ? There are only two fans on a C5, mounted behind the radiator.......and yes.....you need them!

C5.. I know the fans are definitely needed lol.. what I dont know is if I can remove the plastic shroud that mounts right above the top or the radiaor and condensor.. If I can leave out the stock, plastic shrouds, I will and save myself weight and headache!

If that much weight concerns you, keep the 1-2# (if that) of plastic shroud(s) and loose a few pounds yourself.

Try some titanium lug nuts...

Ha, maybe I should have left the weight comment out of that one to avoid confusion. The shrouds weigh close to nothing but I mainly dont want to put them in if not needed because I can just reinstall my CAI and be done with it! Not really sure if there is much added cooling benefit with the shrouds or not. Maybe I will just try running the car without them and see where my temps are at

The shround only helps in traffic. I put a mega single fan on mine (16", >2000cfm) and have zero problem. On track temps are a bit lower (~30deg) than with the stock fans/shroud.
