When my headlights are in the up position, the bezel on the sides of the light, there is a round piece that has fallen off. I have a perfectly round HOLE on the side of both of my headlights. Should I just replace them? Is there a better aftermarket item I should buy? Thanks for any help!
Re: Please help, headlight door bezel (SeansVette)
The round piece provides access to the aiming adjuster. You can live without it, order replacements that are available separately, or just cover with a piece of black electrical tape. Check the well below the headlights - maybe they fell down there and are just laying down there.
Re: Please help, headlight door bezel (SeansVette)
My 98 coupe was delivered without one of the bezels you are talking about. There was actually a service bulletin about it. Dealer got me a new one- it's been there ever since. Never heard of one falling out.
Re: Please help, headlight door bezel (SeansVette)
Go to parts dept, they should have the proper pieces. The early cars had a "pop in" or press fit filler. I think in 2000 the bezel was changed to be a twist and lock type. While my 98 was under warranty the pop in's blew out while driving, I took it in and the dealer changed them to the new style under warranty.
Re: Please help, headlight door bezel (Stilcrazee)
There is a TSB for this. I had mine replaced under warranty. Requires new black plastic headlight surounds and new plugs which lock into position (new plugs don't work with existing surounds as holes a different size. TSB for mine ( '99) as follows:
Service Bulletin Number: 990842005
Bulletin Sequence Number: 758
Date of Bulletin: 9908
NHTSA Item Number: SB607587
Make: CHEVROLET
Model: CORVETTE
Year: 1999
Component: LIGHTING:GENERAL OR UNKNOWN COMPONENT:oTHER PART LIGHTING SYSTEM
Summary: INFORMATION REGARDING LOOSE OR MISSING HEADLAMP DOOR BEZEL PLUG. *TT
If warranty is up I have now idea how much they cost. (If you just buy original design plugs they will blow out again at high speed unless you glue them on somehow)
Re: Please help, headlight door bezel (SeansVette)
Sean,
I recently had to replace one of the headlight plugs on my 99 coupe. I paid $1.00 each for two plugs. It turns out that these new plugs DON'T fit the bezels on our cars so I got two new bezels ( about $12 each, I think, covered under warranty) put in. The new plugs fit perfectly and twist and lock into place.

No problems since...

Does anyone have the part number for the plugs on the newer bezels ?
