1- what are the two rectangular shaped boxes between the H-pipe and the pipe that leads to the manifolds? Catalytic converters was my guess but I wanted to be sure.
2- how do long tube/short tube headers work and what are the pros and cons of each?
I'm completely new to this stuff. I'm wanting to make my FRC sound mean, and so far I only have aftermarket borlas, disappointed with the (still) weak sound. Bought an x pipe but I'm confused as to what I do next since the one I bought isn't long enough and stops before the two boxes I mentioned.
Whats the part number on the mid pipe. I did a search and what comes up doesn't look like full mid pipes.
Sharing some personal OE here:
If you don't run cats with the stingers the exhaust sound will drone so bad you won't want to drive the car.
EDIT: It looks to be a weld/clamp in section, but your pipe will have to be cut. Maybe some one else can chime in. And those are resonators not cats. My mistake...

Part # 60087
And I'm assuming you mean to cut the existing pipe that's attached to the resonators? What purpose do the resonators serve? And where are the cats? And lastly, I know its illegal to remove them, but is there any real harm in not having them on there, emission wise?
The x pipe you bought is to be installed after your cats which are the rectangular boxes, you have to cut the pipe and then lip the x pipe on.
Also if you remove the cats you will fail emission testing if you live in a place that requires it.
As for headers they work to help scavenge exhaust gases by the use of tuned length primaries, not going to really get into all that much detail but it works with the exhaust pulses to help draw more air out. There arent really any downsides to longtube headers other than they are not smog legal and dont have a carb number. For shorties you can find a few that do have a carb number and therefore are smog legal however they do not make as much power as the longtubes but they do look a lot better.

Do the headers section run all the way down to right in front of the cats? Or is there another seperate section of pipe between the cats and the headers?
Other than the emissions test, is there anything else bad about not having cats?
As a side note, the mufflers aren't stingers/s-type, they're ATAK.

The smell.
I had my CATS hallowed out, when the material inside was failing. It made a racket - sounding like gurgling bottle caps in a tin can. Worked great, sounded hella-loud with the Borla Stinger Exhaust & stock Manifolds.
It smelled though.
It wasn't offensive - but was noticeable.
The drone at 1600-1750 rpm - sucked.

If you get headers such as lg or arh then they will run all they way back to your catback as it includes the x pipe and all.
As with downsides to running no cats, it will smell a little especially on first startup but mine isnt too bad after it warms up.
