I have a couple of problems.

I know there are some well documented issues with key fobs on these cars going bad. My fob had been working appropriately and all of a sudden started having HORRIBLE range. I had to have the fob right next to the car and on the drivers side to lock/unlock the doors. Changed the battery and it was exactly the same. I thought it may be the fob and tried the other and it didn't work at all and wouldn't even program (it had been sitting for years and I never really used it). Wondered about the receiver but the tire pressures are coming up and my understanding is that they would not register if that was the problem. I'm trying to figure out what could be going on and if it would be more cost effective to just install some sort of aftermarket keyless entry system since they seem cheaper than a replacement fob or receiver.

Separate issue is that when I have tried to use the key to open the door and it just turns freely in the receptacle. As in, it doesn't turn any thing inside the door, just moves like its in an empty cylinder. Not sure if anyone has had any experience with this. I plan on pulling the door off tomorrow to see whats going on.

So since all this happened at once I can't even lock my car now. I have no way back in, key or keyless. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yeah that move didn't work out well for me.
