headlight gear issue

headlight gear issue
My driver side headlight gear makes a grinding noise for about 5 seconds every time it goes down (started immediately upon receiving it from the dealership after they replaced the battery. Weird, huh??). Is anyone familiar with this problem or know how to fix it?

Sounds like you have a gear going bad. I have replaced both of mine. If you are somewhat mechanically inclined it is not too hard to replace.

The gear was pretty tore up. I moved it to the opposite side where there aren't any teeth missing and now the damn light moves in the opposite direction as the passenger side light. Does the position of the metal piece matter? I'm thinking that's what I did wrong.

Just order the link that Oh1vette posted.. You need it to look like it was before you got in to it.. I had the same problem and just ordered from dickman... Great kit and if its the same as it was it's a brass gear so no more wearing out..
I had never messed with the headlights on the vette before but I have to say that rebuilding the headlight gear with the kit was extremely easy. I was so impressed that I completed the task It comes with instructions and just take it slow.. I think it took all of 30 minutes(that doesn't include time waiting for the epoxy to dry... Hope you get it straightened out!
