When rolling down the driver side window, there is a rattle noise - like a series of small jerks. But rolling the window up is smooth and quiet.
Took the door panel off and couldn't see anything out place. The wire used to lift the window looked loose on the pulleys (an extra 1/4" maybe). This is when the window is down. The wire tightens up when the window is raised.
The window has never been replaced and the lift motor has worked perfectly (without the rattle), up to now.
Is there an adjustment for the lift wire tension? What else should could it be?

Never heard of a window rattling before but yes to a grinding/dragging type sounds. The steel cable can come off a roller/pulley when its worn out but I've only heard of that once. More likely, the cable has become frayed somewhere and you'll need to replace the regulator assembly. Note: I just replaced one for a Corvette Club friend's car...the dealer new replacement regulators have a different electrical connection now and they offer an adapater cable for this. You will have to manually splice the wires from the door to the new adapter cable. In doing this, there are no markings as to which wire is which, so you'll need to verify the up and down function with the new adapter cable to the motor otherwise you might get it backwards...up is down and so on.
