Can anyone tell me if the wheel side right rear rubber boot, if damaged like a small hole well this cause it to leak grease. Or is this a sign of wheel bearings going bad.. the rubber boot got penched while changing to my 3.42's this is when i noticed it slinging out a little grease.
Re: Help!!! Right rear axle boot leaking grease (Jerryk)
Funny you should mention this...I just had my L/R outside CV boot replaced by the dealer. While they were doing the Pre-delivery Inspection, they found grease on the inside of the L/R wheel and upon closer inspection they found a razor cut in the boot. They had to back order the boot and just replaced it on Thursday. They said it is quite involved and special tools are needed. It took them about 2 and half hours to complete. BTW, be carefull if you do the replacement yourself as the grease that is supplied with the boot has all kind of warnings about coming in contact with it (causes liver damage etc...). Good luck...

If you don't replace the boot now, you'll be replacing the boot and CV joint later when dirt gets in it and cuts it out. Get a new boot, the sooner the better.

Ok than from what i understand there should be grease in the boot. my cut was very small and i was able to put black silcone on it to seal it and it seems to work as i just took a 135 mile trip with no grease.. what i dont understand is it normal for the grease be in the boot.

yes its moly grease that lubes the cv joint. the older vetts had universal joints on the half shafts. you need this because of the independant rear suspension so that the axles move in the same plane as the suspension parts and don't restrict their movement like the u joints on a drive shaft. wcj
