MPH Light Dims and Brightens

I've noticed for a while that the MPH light on the speedo dims and brightens for no apparent reason. This is not huge by any means, but it is just within my peripheral vision and I notice it. At first I thought it was a sign of alternator regulation, but the voltmeter needle doesn't budge. Has anyone noticed this or should I just chalk up the phenomenon as age-induced flashbacks?

Welcome to the Forum neighbor! I believe there's a light sensor in the dash that senses ambient light and adjusts the dash brightness accordingly.

When I first got my Vert I noticed the same thing. :rolleyes:

My 97 coupe does the same thing!! WEIRD! :crazy:

I've noticed the same thing on my 01 coupe occassionally. Seeing other posts, I guess "they all do that". :cheers:

I have the same problem, only the MPH goes bright and dim, but not all the time :confused:

There is a photo sensor above the number 1 button on the dashboard. If you put your finger over it in sunny conditions, you will see the MPH fade in brightness. Remove your finger and it will become bright again. GM's attempt at reducing glare at night. :cheers:
