I'm ready to take the plunge and install some HAL shocks, at least in the rear, in an attempt to defeat the wheel-hop demon. Who has the best price out there? Anyone know? I know there was a group purchase awhile back, but I'm sure that's long gone.
My suspension is totally stock on my 2001 A4. When you say wheel hop, do you mean how the rear just kinda hops or skips from left to right when you hit ridges or other irregularities on the road?
I have been wondering what would be the best way to get rid of that behavior myself.
By wheel hop, I mean the pulsating dirve line shock that happens during a wheel spinning take-off from a dead stop. The rear wheels "hop" up and down. I suppose you could describe wheel hop as a low frequency resonance in the rear part of the drive line that shakes the car fiercely.
It sounds like the phenomena you are describing, with the rear end skipping left or right, is something different. I haven't experienced anything in that department that causes me concern, but wheel hop on acceleration is a killer.
Thanks for the clarification. It surprises me that upgrade shocks would help with wheel hop. I guess I'm pretty ignorant about most of this. It would be nice if somebody else would weigh in with their experiences on this issue. :yesnod:
