Default How to modify C5 shift boot for C6 shift ****

Hey guys. I remember seeing a DIY one time concerning the modification of the C5 boot for the C6 shifter but I can't seem to find it. Should I go through the trouble of modding it or should I just order a custom one? Thanks

Its really up to you. I did the stock boot mod, mainly because the boot was still in pretty good shape. 2 years, and still loving it. If you were hoping to color match some other interior components, this would be a great opportunity to order a custom one.

I followed this advice to use a ziptie after cutting some of the glue & threads at the top. Get the smallest ziptie you can, and turn the latch of the ziptie so that it doesn't bother you when you grab the shifter.

An O-ring of the appropriate size will also work...

Just did this when installing a C6 shifter in my C5 convert...I'd take a pic but it's not that hard. First, turn the boot inside out to access the area you need to open up. Then use a heat gun to soften the glue and undue it rather than cutting, which is hard to do with that stiff glue and can get you in trouble. Pull it gently out with needlenose pliers, then cut a few threads until it's large enough for the C6 ****.

I used the zip tie when I switched to the Hurst stick, but I like the o-ring idea better because it is continuous without the locking end to stick out.. I may have to replace the zip tie next time I have the console out...
