I'm usually one who tries my best to answer questions and this time I have one to ask. My super high mileage '99, was recently upgraded to an LS7 clutch setup, new slave, pilot and bled by a dealer. Yes, I used my own advice to use the search function and nothing really points out to this issue for anyone else.
Issue: Clutch pedal has about %50 free travel before it does anything. The clutch itself engages about an inch up off the floor. I suspect the clutch master cylinder but without replacing it, is there any other way to find out? The manual states there is a way to adjust the clutch via the inspection port although I'm thinking its only a manual way of releasing the pressure plate so that it auto adjusts or whatever. Like I said, the first %50 of the pedal going down has very little resistance but not lose. Its certainly not pushing against the clutch plates during this initial travel and yes, I took it had had the system carefully bled to insure there was no trapped air following the replacement.
This is a very common problem with LS7 clutches. That is why most of the time when you buy an LS7 clutch, you buy an adjustable master cyllinder. this will allow you to adjust the grab point. Tick makes a good adjustable master cylinder. hope this helps!
