Air Filters
I was at the newsstand over the weekend, and picked up a current copy of HOT ROD magazine. In this issue they did a test of several air filters. The purpose of the test was to show the difference between "stock type" and aftermarket, performance filters.
The short story is that all of the filters were tested on a flow bench, and then on an engine on a dyno stand, and then in a car on a chassis dyno. All of the filters initially tested over 2500 CFM capacity, and all were within 2-3 HP on both of the dyno tests.
This is not directly applicable to C-5 Corvettes on one hand, because the tests were done with the standard 14"x3", 4 bbl carb filter. On the other hand, it DID rate the different filter brands any materials by actual performance, which probably could be applied to a Corvette sized filter. The prices were also listed, which ranged from $4-$65.
Overal, it was some interesting information.
