you are going to need a c6 **** too. either that or thread it yourself to accept a C5 ****. i had one in mine. i thought it was ok. a little shorter throw, the angle of it put the **** in a ergofriendly spot. i cut about an inch off of the lever and threaded it for a ball shifter. felt great, until i tried someones B&M ripper and got one for myself.
WILL ANY 6 sp, c6 (anyyear) ----stock shifter (z06 preffered)
bolt right onto the c5 ,6 sp platform, and GO?
Pretty sure the answer to this is yes. The C6 shifter should bolt right in to the C5. As was previously stated you'll also need a C6 ****...

That's totally subjective. You can buy excellent quality aftermarket short throw shifters used on this forum in that price range that will feel very different from the stock C6 shifter. What are you looking for in a shifter?
looking for 'smoother' easier, shorter, (for havac /radio access) and faster shifting, not necesarrily making the car 'faster'
A good aftermarket shifter like the MGW will get you two of your criteria: shorter and faster. The well known aftermarket shifters have very precise positive throws that are much shorter than stock. They do not feel "smooth" in the manner I think you mean it. They have a "notchy" feel to them. Also, the change in the pivot angle and the shorter handle make for less mechanical advantage (leverage) so shift effort will increase.
Based on what you've said you're looking for I'd recommend you take a look at the RSD snap shifter. It's basically a modified C6Z06 shifter. It also wouldn't be a bad idea to go to a local corvette club meeting and ask a couple of guys to try out their aftermarket shifters...

Here is what you need to do! I just got a hurst at a swap meet for 70$ I know not everyone can do that but awesome shifter. swapped it for my BM. Then change your tranny fluid with royal purple and do the anti venom mod. Night and day difference. If nothing else start with the antivenom mod and you will see a huge difference. It took me 15 min. PM me if you want better instructions than the ones below.

I disagree. I would strongly recommend that you DO NOT use royal purple or any other synthetic transmission fluid on your 1999 C5. 1997 - 2000 C5's have paper blocking rings which may deteriorate over time if exposed to synthetic fluid.
I do agree that fresh trans fluid and the anti-venom mod will make a big difference in the feel of your shifts. Clean clutch fluid wouldn't hurt either...

AHHH SORRY I did not notice the year!!! I have a 04 so I was basing that off mine. So skip the RP and do the rest hahahaha Change your fluid though with DEX3.
