I have a 2002 vette with a 4speed automatic. I was driving my car a few days ago and at one point I got on it and it pulled all the way to rev limiter and then bounced off it without shifting. A bit of a ohh sh%t moment so i let off and i felt the car shift just fine, firm and crisp like usual. I got to a stop light and I accelerated. I noticed the car was not shifting it would stay in first. As soon as I let off again and revs fell a bit it shifted again. While driving home and experimenting as i know just about nothing about auto transmissions. I found that, from a stop if you accelarte up to 2200 rpm and slighlty let of for a second it shifts to second. From this point gently accelarating it seems to shift into 3. I havent taken it really past that so I dont know if it goes into 4th. What could the possible issues be and how can i adress them. I have searched around and havent found any forum that adressed the issue i am having. any help is appreciated
I had a similar problem. My car would not shift at wot but would shift at part throttle. I had to wind up rebuilding my tranny. I only had 17K miles at the time.
Burnt 3-4 clutch pack and bad converter. 4L60E's are famous for a weak 3-4 cluthc set up. From experience have high dollar clutches put in when you rebuild it, especially if it has more HP than it came stock with.
Pull the pan and check the filter. If the pan has black residue the clutches have given up the ghost. If there is metal shavings the converter has gone south. Not a hard pan to pull if you get the car up in the air.
Could be skipping second and going to third, try manual second or manually shift from first to second if it stays in first, could be band smoked, solenoid bad or stuck valve. Good luck
