Default Convertible Top Lid Struts

I've gotten a lot of good information from the Forum over the years and for a change just wanted to share some.

Just had to replace the struts on my 2004 Vert and wanted to share this info. I'm sure that those of us who haven't yet replaced them will be needing to replace them soon. Here ya go...the OEM part number for the 2 struts is 10275941, they are made by "Stabilus", retail for around $32.00 each from GM.

Just purchased the same "Stabilus" struts with a lifetime warranty from here http://stores.ebay.com/Lift-Supports...id=p4340.l2563 for $32.00 for both! They also carry fender, coupe & hood struts. Ordered on Thursday.....Received on Tuesday.

I am pretty sure that is wher i bought mine. They are a real PITA to install because of the way the lid is designed.

Actually it really wan't bad at all .... had them both installed in about 20 minutes... the biggest pita was finding something to hold the lid up, ended up using an adjustable paint roller extension.

Z06 and FRC owners can also use this info

We have the EXACT same decklid/trunk

Stabilus is the OEM supplier to GM, IIRC

I've never had one fail on my Z's

I thought the OP was talking the lid that covers the top...not the trunk lid? My trunk lid is fine but the other drops when you go to put the top down.

I was talking about replacing the struts on the cover that you open to put the convertible top up/down. I also did the rear deck lid. That was a snap, like 10 minutes.

fendermnender, you are correct! I was talking about the tonneau cover not the trunk lid (aka: the lid that you lift up when you take the top down to store the convertible top). My struts took a dump, I had to keep holding the lid up with my shoulder to lower the top into it.

Don't be confused.. the link in my previous post carries these struts as well as trunk hood etc. etc. Easy install.

I could be wrong but the tonneau cover is referred to as the "waterfall"

Gotcha!

Heck man, I never could understand why the tonneau was called that anyway. Thanks for educating me on Vette stuff. I need all I can get and should stick to lurking.

Default Part numbers for struts

the original GM pn is :10275941. the replacement can be found at RockAuto for $10 ea: SACHS SG430019. I found it a bit tricky to install since you need to close tonneu, open trunk, close trunk, open tonneu, etc but it only took a total of 20 minutes to change.

You'll probably also want to change the trunk lid struts at same time. Also $10 at RockAuto: SACHSSG430020

Good to know Bob.
Latest price @ http://stores.ebay.com/Lift-Supports...id=p4340.l2563

Total for 2 shipped = $29.90
Lifetime Warranty as opposed to 12 months.

Some people, like myself, might consider the extra $6.00 worth it to get the Lifetime Warranty depending on how long they intend on keeping their Vette. Just a thought.

I am looking to replace the tonneau cover lift / hinge mechanisms as it wants to close on my hand and arm when I am raising or lowering the convertible top into the trunk. I ordered new ones for the trunk as that should be easy. I cannot seem to sort / search by the right words to get the tonneau cover as I think that requires different parts than the actual trunk lid. What do they call that tonneau cover so I can search for right parts. Thank you

I had the same issue for getting the right terminology. (Deck lid vs Trunk lid). Here is what I ordered for the lid that opens to put the top into the trunk.

Thank you . I figured it was called Tonneau top cover but that search was futile. Best wishes.

I know this is an old post, but it just saved me money, and I didn't have to switch to Geico.

Shipped from Rock Auto is now $19.96.

Thanks for the advice/help.
