Hi, I wanted to know what would be the best rpm to launch a 6 speed corvette c5 at the dragstrip? What tire psi recommended for rear street tires? What rpm to shift to keep the car in it's powerband? I do 8.71 sec at 83 mph in the 1/8 mile, is this good?

I'm looking at my time slip for my "stock" 2000 coupe auto trans.
Stock in quotes because it has a Varaturd, and a cat back and some sort of tune that I believe slows the car down, especially on the back half where the Varaturd supposedly should shine.
1/8 mile was 8.4 sec @ 86mph.
1/4 mile was 13.05 @ 107mph.
I only made 2 passes as a baseline before I took it apart for mods.
Stick shift cars should mph better than an auto car by 2mph or so.
The stick shift guys will have to chime in on the techniques they use.

8.71 is seems slow for a stick. You should check around for the drag racing section and check out the posts from Ranger. He is one of the stick shift gurus.
Tire pressure is generally a matter of trial and error. It will depend on the tire. Test-n-Tune days are good for that.

Im' a firm believer in having seperate rear wheels & tires for strip only.
I figure if your gonna beat on your car, at least give it a chance to give you a decent time slip.
03 Z. Hi-11's, 1/4 mi. stock rear,stock motor.
Good luck.

I wish I could help you! I have a MN6 coupe with less than a dozen passes at the strip. Three different types of tires, many different mods including a cam, headers etc, scattered in the along the way. I am an idiot/newbie to the drag strip. Best pass before the cam was 13.1 @ 111. Since the cam I can't get her to hook on the current tires though I have seen 115 at the big end. The car has deep 11's in her but I have a lack of experience. Drag radials would help a bunch! Oh well, as long as I don't hit a wall,,,I am happy!
Like someone stated before, watch the ranger videos. He is very good at launching Corvettes. You will have a harder time launching a C5 with street tires. If you are using drag radials it is much easier. With either tire you don't want to "shock" the tire. You are looking to launch the car by sliding the clutch out. You are going to have to see what RPM's you can pull by trial and error. I am guessing the car is stock (or relatively so) so start at 2500 RPM's to launch and work your way up from there. Shift your car at redline and it should keep it in the meat of it's powerband. Good luck.
