Default Dyno ????

Hello

When I bought my car April of last year I dynoed 296 rwhp and 309 ftlb. That same day I installed a Vortex Ram Air and dynoed 307 rwhp/319 ftlb. The car only had maybe 1000 miles on it. I was impressed with how smooth the curve was and how much the Vortex added to the hp.

I now have over 15,000 miles on the car and am getting ready to do some more mods. I went yesterday to get a new baseline, the car temp was 196 and the air temp was a 77 outside with low humity. The car dynoed 298 rwhp and 313 ftlb. the graph was very choppy not a smooth line at all. Plus I am getting what looks like a bad knock at 5100-5200 rpm. I don't know what is up the car seems to be running great. My last couple of time down the track it ran very consistant 12.8-12.9 with 1.94 60' times with 108-109 mph on stock tires.

Any ideas on what the knock is or why the line is so choppy. We tried to disconect the battery and see if that help clean the line up a little, but was not successful. :nonod:

This is a 2001 auto that is all stock except the Vortex Ram Air.

Thanks

Here are a couple of guesses.

Bad tank of gas .

Bad plug wires - I had one vibrate loose (number 7 - although it never came off) that caused my C5 to run rough - pushed it back on and the car was fine for several thousand miles and it vibrated loose again - dealer replaced all wires under warranty and now it runs smooth.

Check each wire to see if they are all tight. You could also check under the hood at night with the engine running to see if there is any arcing.

Did you get a plot of your air to fuel ratio vs. RPM?

When I put the supercharger on my first dyno # was 431.4 RWHP and 424.0 RWTQ the car knocked real bad and pulled 7degrees of timing at 5000 RPMs the temp was in the mid 90s humidity was upper 40% I waited a month and used 93 octane fuel with NOSoctane booster and went back it was even hotter and the humidity was 47% It ran a 446.5 RWHP and 424.4 RWTQ with no knock real smooth  now i will wait till winter and re dyno it should do even better also the dyno has a slow fan. NOS octane boost is great....

Thanks for the advice I will check the plug wires tonight. I will also post the dyno sheet with air/fuel tomorrow and you can see what I am talking about.

At 15,000 miles I would take a close look at the plugs...sounds like a great time to get some NGK TR 55's..Cheap insurance!
