I have 11,000 miles and just over 2 years on my stock tires.
The rears are pretty much gone (how did that happen! :) ) and
the fronts are fine but........Is it just my imagination or does
the ride get worse with the tires age? Also the car seems to
wander and follow the most minor irregularities in the road
much more than it used to. What's your experience?
Re: RUN FLATTERS...A question for you (All Are Red)
Having adequate tread should help lateral stability so semi-bald rear tires could account for the wandering. I don't know about the ride quality though.
Re: RUN FLATTERS...A question for you (All Are Red)
I didn't quite have 8K miles before I switched to KD'S although there stilll seem to have a good amount of tread left on the rears. But the RunFlats after just 8K miles did seem to have less control than from day 1. The biggest factor was their lousy performance in sliding when making wide turns This did seem to get significantly worse as they aged. Also with age, I noticed that the car had the tendency to sometimes wander to the left or to the right. I was glad to get rid of those POS tires. GM should either put better RF tires on the car (even the best RF tires won't be as good as non-RF tires) or give the buyer a choice
Re: RUN FLATTERS...A question for you (All Are Red)
That is exactly what is happening. The rubber compound closer to the carcus is designed to be harder. Hence the noise and stiffer feel and "greasie feel". I have the original EMT's on my 99. My goal was to get 4 years use out of them. I will. My car turns 4 this Dec. All four of my tires just measured in at 6/32'd new is 11/32'd. They are wearing even. Now my plan is to buy new tires sometime after the 1st of the year. I figuer my car will have 20K miles on it by Jan'Feb 03. Not bad $1200 every 4 years. That I can handle. Plus I just don't like all the mounting/dis-mounting. I have new chrome Z06 wheels that are PERFECT I'd hate to have some yahoo gouge my wheels installing lesser wearing tires every 18 months or so.
What's my next tire, not sure the GY EMT's have served me fine plus I like the security of the EMT's. If I auto-X or drag raced there are better tires. Maybe it's my style of driving but since I have never exceed the grip the EMT's provide why would I want more GRIP that I'll never experience. I don't drive my car at 8/10th let alone 10/10th's. More grip usually means lessor tread life.
They are all trade off's. Every tire manufactured will excel at something. The trick is to find the attributes that meet your NEEDS. Not someone elses.

MarkFLC5,
Are your KD's the run flat version? Also, I have noticed my traction control is kicking in much more often, even on a relatively easy second gear shift. It only used to do that on a banzai run :)

Negative. You're probably referring to the KDW's or the KD SSS's. Mine are the KD's - non-runflat. Clearly the stickiest tire I've ever had. There are other good non Runflat tires but anything is better than a RunFlat. I don't anyone who has gone to a NON-Runflat and switched back, unless he has had bad luck with flats - that would be a good reason.
Maybe by then Goodyear will have an even better run flat (EMT) for us "True Believers!" I am a big fan of Goodyear tires, no problems ever and I have liked every Goodyear performance tire I have ever bought. :seeya :chevy

Re: RUN FLATTERS...A question for you (All Are Red)
the ride gets worse because the tires are directional and you can't rotate them. Just before I replaced mine at 40,000 miles I was following every rut in the road.
