Default Columbus GA Recommendations

I'm working in Columbus GA for the next several months, but the starter on my '00 coupe is starting to crap out. I know any garage should be able to handle it (I could if I were at home long enough) but would like a recommendation on a shop or vette guy. The car is lowered and the front is only about 5" max from the ground, so I don't want the newest lackee in the shop just ramming it up on the lift after doing burnouts for 30 minutes... ya know? Also would like to know which shops are fair and have a great reputation in the vette community. And no, unfortunately I don't have the time to drive to ATL for this as I usually work about 10-11 hour days plus weekends.

Thanks!

Default New Starter

I would order new starter from Summit, Powermaster or equivelent. That has metal planitary gears instead of plastic $300 range, Order LO Profile jack from Harbor Freight $60. It can all be to you in 2 days DIY, dealer gets about $600. It is a bit harder than older models but still very doable.
I live about a 100 mi away, If you like call I will walk you through it.

Cool, just got the Powermaster 9509 from Jegs. Have a buddy getting me access to a garage on Saturday with a lift. Now, just need lifting points/instructions for c5...do I need pucks?

Default Lifting for starter

If you have the pucks great, If not look behind each front wheel & in front of each rear wheel. You will see the slots for pucks. If rubber is on lift arms go there if not use a small wood block at PU points. I have a C4 & a C5 if I use my friends lift he has allways opened doors hood & hatch. I don"t know if that is common or his rule. I have had 8 different engines in the C4. I went through several starters. The engine now is a 13.5 to 1 comp. same as last 2. Powermaster works great. Make sure contact on flywheel is right. You will get instructions. I think you can check with paper clip. What I am saying is make sure starter engages deep enough in flywheel. Good Luck HIP
