Does ANYONE make a TSTAT that actually works right?
There is no advanatge in running the car cold. Aside from the lose in horsepower one might end up with less contaminant burnoff from the oil. I'd be real concerned about having run the car at 150 all winter.[/QUOTE
Well I sure saw an advantage in running the car cooler! I tested it, not SOTP, and saw 15 HP more when the car was at 180 temp Vs. 205. I saw the same thing at the dragstrip where I ran 2 tenths quicker and 2 MPH faster at 180 Vs. 205. As for contaminants, run your car HARD for a few minutes, it'll get the oil hot enough to burn off the crud, even with the coolant temp in the 175-185 range. Chevy runs the engines too hot for optimal HP purely for emissions, it slightly lowers NOX output.
