I had some work done on my 98 by TSP in Mckinney TX, but having some issues. Maybe someone could inform me. The valve train is making more noise than I think it should. Their guy said it should make noise since I have a big cam. Roller Rockers are supposed to make noise?
Also, the engine was tuned but it smells a little rich at the exhaust. They say it is because of the cam, and it will smell somewhat rich at idle. Really?
They rebuilt heads. Trunions?
Put in a new A/C , Compressor, Condensor, accumulator.
Tuned engine and installed oil pan gasket and timing gasket, because of oil leak. Dyno'd rwhp @381.0
Cost...$ 3,892.00
Going to install a Fast intake with TB later.
Any help?
Rick
I am not sure where this is going, however there are some key pieces of information missing im sure. What is the size of the cam that was installed? How many miles are on the vehicle? Prior issues? Sounds like the a/c work was a significant chunk of the cash there...Doesnt say what was "rebuilt" on the heads other the the trunion upgrade. Oil pan gasket, is vehicle maintenance. I have listened to many sound clips lately as I am planning a cam swap and more noise is part of the game it seems like (depending on the size). Also..Depeneding on the overlap, so could it be smelling rich depending on the condition of your cats.
I called today to get a quote on a cam and other supporting mods, and the gentleman I talked to was truly professional and extremely helpful. Not trying to sell me anything I did not need, and explained any questions I had. I am sure there is not a cost overage as it seems you may think at first glance of this post. A breakdown of what the charges were may help you also understand where the charges came from, as what I had said before, the a/c and the oil pan maintenance needed may be large chunks and the cam is on par for a normal cam swap.
Just my .02
I rebuilt my heads(5 angle valve job and milled) and it does sound a "little more" noisy than I am used to even after installing a 228R cam. However my valves and seats are different and I'm sure the stem heights have changed a little which would contribute to more noise. I've always heard there WILL BE more noise with a cam and additional work on heads...I believe them.
However I have very healthy oil pressure and once the car is opened up the noise cannot be heard over the exhuast.
thank you guys. I am not sure how to post a video But mine sounds a lot like yours does! I will take the car back and see if they can retune maybe tweek some stuff. Half of the cost was the A/C. I will be putting the FAST brand intake and a matching TB this time. Should give it some more umph. I hope. '
When I bought the car I paid 14. 3 years ago. And the guy had just dropped ten k on it. I've had the transmission rebuilt, and this work, and new leather seat skins. So far this car has 18 thousand dollars spent on it, and its just now starting to take shape! Never thought an old mid age vette would cost so much!

My valve train isnt any louder than it was when it was stock.... if it is, I cant really hear it over the exhaust. What kind of head work did they do? Did they mill the heads any? Did they replace the lifters? What was the preload?

not sure of what was done recently. True Street Performance said they put a rebuild kit in. Rebuilt trunins. Thats all I know. They are still as noisy as they were when they had ten thousand miles on them.
thanks, rick
