Unfortunately my 2000 uses the expensive sensors but I have noticed aftermarket replacements for almost half the cost of the OEM replacements. Has anyone used the ones made by Dorman or VDO? If so were they any good? I know I can do the battery replacement mod in the DIY sticky but was still curious about these brands. Any info would be apreciated. Thanks.

Upgrade the entire system for $400. That gives you all four 01-04 oem sensors, the receiver, plus a pair of the newer / better keyfobs.
Cost is about the same as 4 new 97-00 sensors, but now your whole system is upgraded and will be much cheaper for future replacements. Plus, you can sell you old keyfobs to offset the costs.

Thanks. Are vendors selling this as a kit or as separate components?
I just put on new front tires and TPMS on my 99. Got the sensors at TireRack. About $60 each. Same as OEM. They work perfect and should last 10 years. You have to call and order over phone. You won't see them on web site. They are an exact replacement (Schrader) at half the price of most other suppliers.
There is no need to upgrade to the newer system. The replacements from Tire Rack are better than OEM as they seal up without the gasket and are dead on accurate. Sixty dollars a piece and they come quick.
Funny story, I received a set of Z06 replica wheels from my beautiful wife for Christmas and waited until it was warmer out to order a new set of TPM Sensors. Had my son who runs a BelleRoc tire store remove the newly installed tires from last year and mount them on my newly acquired wheels a long with the new sensors.
Brought the new set of wheels home and bolted them on, did not have time to relearn the new sensors - had to go to work. There was a little vibration at 72mph so I had to go back to re balance the fronts and was going to have them relearn the TPM system.
When I started up the car after the balance it told me that I had a flat right rear tire, I thought how could it know, we did not teach the new sensors yet. I looked to the right rear of the car from the drivers seat, had the top down you know and that is when I saw my old wheels in the boxes my new wheels came in stacked up over by the wall. What a weird feeling for a minute. I guess that one was stuck on or the other 3 were dead??
Thanks all for the information. I checked GM Parts House and will look into the Tire Rack offerings. I will be redoing my complete interior sometime over the summer and may opt to do the conversion to the 01-04 sensors/receiver/fobs at that time. Currently my sensors are still working but looking down the road as a pre-emptive maintenance item before they cease working. Also just purchased 4 18x9.5 polished Thinspoke wheels that I will be mounting in order to run 18 on all four corners and will need sensors for them. Plan on storing the 17/18 Thinspoke set curently on the car as backups. I really like the Thinspoke look. So thanks again for the input.
